TIME FRAME I use Microsoft's Track Changes to edit, but I'm open to using other options, if necessary. A research paper or query letter is usually edited within three days. A manuscript could take between two weeks and two months to edit, depending on its length and the type of editing desired. I prefer to give my clients a 'no later than' date. This allows me time to delve into the body of your work, without looking at the clock. In addition, I will send you regular updates while your work is in my hands. Unless specifically requested, I won't rush through the editing process. Your creation deserves better. RESEARCH PAPERS, BUSINESS/QUERY LETTERS & NEWSLETTERS For research papers, business letters, query letters, and newsletters, I charge a flat fee of one penny per word, with a minimum fee of twenty-five dollars. I will provide corrections in spelling, punctuation, grammar, and sentence structure, such as agreement of pronouns and modifiers. If you choose to obtain Fine Tune Editing's services for a research paper, business letter, query letter, or newsletter, send an email to cara@finetuneediting.com. Enter 'copy edit' in the subject line. Please include your name, and description of your work. Send your document as an attachment. Then proceed to the payment page. FICTION AND NONFICTION Novels and nonfiction works are more complex; therefore, the breakdown of services is more complex. Many editors use the terms copy editing, line editing, and content editing, but their definitions vary. For that reason, I will provide my own definitions. Copy editing services will involve correcting mistakes pertaining to basic grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Line editing services will involve a detailed focus on sentence structure, repetition of words, parallelism, word flow, dialogue, showing vs. telling. Content editing services will give overall advice regarding focus, content, pacing, cohesiveness, viewpoint, passive vs. active voice. Copying editing services cost one cent per word. Line editing services cost two cents per word, as do content editing services. I offer all three services for three cents per word. The minimum fee is twenty-five dollars. Include your name, word count, description of your work, and the services you require. Please submit the first five hundred words of your document as an attachment. With large projects, it is important to establish a clear understanding between author and editor. For this reason, I prefer to discuss expectations and services with you before accepting any payment. RE-EDITING At the request of my clients, I now offer re-editing services. If, after making revisions to your letter or manuscript, you would like to have your document edited a second time, please email me at cara@finetuneediting.com and enter 're-edit' in the subject line. Provide your name and a description of the work you'd like to have re-edited. Re-editing services cost half of the original editing fee, regardless of the altered word count. WRITING CONSULTANT I charge a flat rate for my service as a writing consultant--thirty dollars for one hour. Since different writers have different needs, my approach is open-ended. Perhaps you'd like to present a sample of your writing for review. Maybe you'd like to ask some general, grammar-related questions. In either of these instances--and many more--I'm ready to help.
